Competitive Bridgedancing (CompBD)

From January-April 2026, the first Competitive Bridgedancing data was collected in the region of Lake County, CA, USA. A 6-mile stretch of freeway was analyzed and tested across multiple Bridgedancing sessions, which included various bike transportation across more than a dozen bridges & rest stops, along with stops at multiple local resources, including two grocery stores, a gas station, a pizza shop, an ice cream shop and a coffee bistro.

Baseline data for each was collected in an initial Casual session which lasted 90 minutes one-way, with (2) extended Bridge stops.  After a 30 minute “hang time” interval, and another single extended Bridgedancing session, the return trip tallied just under 45 minutes. In total, the round trip adventure took approximately 3 hours.

Quantitative comparative min-max data was collected for overall time, distance, intensity, terrain, cardiopulmonary, wildlife documentation, trash pickup and song selection. The qualitative experience was documented by the individual Bridgedancers, which included reviews of the competitive course and the businesses visited. Also included was a personal experience journal submitted by the participant.

Two weeks later, a formal Competitive session with complete calisthenics and performative dance & athletics took place along the same route. The participant biked in both directions in under 30 minutes each way, totaling 60 minutes. There was therefore more than 2 hours available for Bridgedancing after the biking was concluded, which was rated highly due to the creative content and enjoyment of the passersby.
